Monthly gift

This is a recurring charge. Stripe bills it every month until the donor cancels. It is not a one-time gift. Canceling happens in Stripe, not on this website, so the monthly Payment Link should be one that lets donors manage or cancel the subscription.

The monthly amount is not chosen on this website. Stripe charges whatever the monthly Payment Link was built to collect, and bills that charge every month. This page cannot pass a different dollar amount, and it cannot turn a one-time link into a monthly plan.

Stripe setup for the site owner

Checkout is off until you paste two real Payment Links into js/config.js. This project was not given a Stripe account, so no live payment can start today.

  1. Create a Stripe account and finish the verification Stripe requires before real charges are allowed.
  2. Create a one-time Payment Link. Paste the https://buy.stripe.com/... URL into oneTimePaymentLink.
  3. Create a separate product with a monthly recurring price, then a Payment Link for that price. Paste that different URL into monthlyPaymentLink.
  4. If donors should type the amount, turn that on in Stripe and set the matching mode to customer-chooses. If the price is fixed, use fixed-price. Leave unspecified if you do not want this page to describe the price.
  5. Use a test-mode link (the path contains test_) until you mean to take real money. The page will say test mode does not collect a live payment.

No secret keys belong in this file. Card numbers are entered on Stripe, never here. Full steps, including the customer portal for canceling a monthly gift, are in README.md.

What a gift is for

Gifts pay for the unglamorous parts of rescue: reliable transport, food-safe storage, and the time it takes to move food while it is still good.

This page does not convert dollars into meals. That kind of equation would be a guess, and guesses are not printed here. Tax deductibility is also not stated. Add that sentence only if it is true for this organization and an advisor you trust has approved the wording.
